Dal dhokli with cluster beans

It is a spicy one-pot meal, prepared by simmering whole wheat flour bits in a lentil-based soup with cluster beans & spices. It is a popular dish in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
This is truely the comfort meal that'll get you through lazy workday dinner scenes.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup cluster beans (gawar fali)
  • 4-5 cup water
  • 2 cup wheat flour
  • 3 tbsp gram flour (besan)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 green chilli, chopped
  • 2 tsp coriander, chopped
  • 4 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp salt

METHOD:

  1. In a bowl, add wheat flour, 2 tbsp gram flour, 1 tablespoon of oil and half of the spices.
  2. Mix well and then make a dough out of it. Make small balls and flatten them with palms to make dhokli. Set aside.
  3. Heat a pressure cooker and add 3 tablespoons of oil. Add mustard seeds in it.
  4. When seeds begin to crackle, add asafoetida, cumin seeds and remaining spices (except salt and garam masala) - turmeric, red chilli, chopped green chilli and 1 tbsp gram flour and mix well.
  5. Add water and take a boil. Then add dhokli and gawarfali to it. Add salt and garam masala too and mix well.
  6. Then cover the lid of the cooker and take 3-4 whistles on medium flame.
  7. Delicious dal dhokli with cluster beans is ready to eat.
  8. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.

NOTE - Adjust the spices as per your taste.
